Jakarta Brings Basketball Gold Medals at PON XXI

Jakarta contingent made new history by bringing home gold medals for the men's and women's basketball teams at PON XXI Aceh - North Sumatra 2024.

This is the first time for Jakarta

The Jakarta men's basketball team won the gold medal at PON XXI after defeating East Java in a drama-filled final match that took place at Harapan Bangsa Sports Hall (GOR), Banda Aceh, Tuesday (9/10).

This victory completes Jakarta's success in the basketball sport after previously the women's basketball team also won gold by defeating East Java in the final match at the same venue.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Head, Andri Yansyah expressed his pride in this achievement, and it was the first time in Jakarta's history that he had succeeded in bringing together gold in both basketball categories in one PON event.

"For the basketball sport, Jakarta has successfully made history by winning gold medals. Jakarta men's and women's basketball teams won gold at PON, this is the first time for Jakarta," he uttered, at Harapan Bangsa GOR, Banda Aceh, Wednesday (9/11).

He furthered the match was tight until near the end, with both teams in a tense situation. Jakarta men's team was able to take the lead after passing the crucial 50-point mark and finally closed the match with a 62-57 victory over East Java.

"This brilliant achievement is real evidence of the hard work of the athletes and the full support of the community, and is expected to be a motivation for other sports to continue to fight and make Jakarta's name famous in national events," he continued.

He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Jakarta who supported him from afar and the people of Aceh who came directly to Harapan Bangsa GOR to encourage the Jakarta basketball team.

"Thank you to the people of Jakarta who continue to support from afar and the people of Aceh who came to support the Jakarta basketball team," he stated.
