Jakarta Contingent Ready to Compete at Peparnas XVII Solo

Jakarta contingent which consists of 167 athletes and 222 officials are ready to compete at National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) XVII Solo, Central Java, on 1-14 October.

Jakarta Youth and Sport Agency Head, Andri Yansyah, admitted his side targets 5th position with 28 gold medals. Therefore, he asked the athletes to perform optimally, never give up and not take their opponents lightly.

"We must have a strong mentality. Don't lose mentally to your opponent," Andri said, Thursday (9/26).

He added that Jakarta contingent to compete at 13 out of 20 sport branches.

"We have picked the best athletes to win gold medal. They also have undergone training center at PPOPP Ragunan," he added.

Appreciation, he continued, will be given by Rp 400 million for the individual category and Rp 300 million for the team category winning gold. Then Rp 200 million for winning silver and Rp 100 million for winning bronze medals.

Jakarta National Paralympic Committee Chairman, Yasin Onasie, stated athletes sent to Solo had undergone classification.

"We participated 10 sport branches at Peparnas Papua. Now we participate in 13 sport branches," he stated.

Jakarta Peparnas Contingent Chairman, Rahman, explained his side targets 28 gold, 26 silver, and 43 bronze medals.

The 13 sport branches are para swimming, para table tennis, para athletic, para badminton, para wheelchair, para archery, boccia, para shooting, judo for the blind, para chess, weightlifting, tenpin bowling and wheelchair fencing.

"Disabled athletes have equality and opportunities to participate in multi-sport event at the national level through Peparnas," he explained.
