Persons with Disabilities May Be Accompanied When Voting for Ballot Papers

The East Jakarta Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) allows people with disabilities to bring one companion when voting for the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election (Pilkada) on November 27.

The assistant must keep the voter's choice confidential

East Jakarta Bawaslu's Information Data and Violation Handling Division Coordinator, Ahmad Syarifudin Fajar stated this assistance was to help people with disabilities who were already registered as permanent voters to exercise their right to vote in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

"The assistant must keep the voter's choice confidential," he said, Wednesday (11/13).

He explained the provision has been regulated in Article 356 of Law Number 7/2017 on General Elections. Where in Article 356, it is stated that people with disabilities can bring a companion according to their wishes.

"We ask that TPS supervisors ensure that people with disabilities receive their rights during the upcoming voting," he stated.
