The scholarship was handed over by City Secretary, Marullah Matali; Jakarta Scholarship Foundation Chairperson, Margani M. Mustar; and Chief Trustee Lt. Gen (ret) TNI Sutiyoso who was also Jakarta Governor for the 1997-2007 period.

"We're fully committed to education in Jakarta. This is evident from the allocation of the City Budget (APBD) for education affairs which exceeds the standard allocation of 20 percent. But, the Jakarta Government has budgeted more than 24 percent for education matters," he expressed, as quoted by the Jakarta Government's press release.

He added the Jakarta Government would also continue the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) and Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) programs. As for the 2025 education budget was also now under discussion with the legislature regarding free schools.

This plan had been planned without canceling the KJP program, with a mechanism that is still under study. "It shows our commitment to education as Jakarta is a barometer of all regions. Moreover, we're now transforming into a global city," he added.

He went on to say that the scholarship itself was given to 2,247 students. 1,452 were continuing scholarship recipients and 795 were new scholarship recipients.

"This is a mandate from the community. I hope you (students) use it as best you can and make it a motivation to achieve your dreams," he asserted.

Jakarta Scholarship Foundation Chairperson, Margani M. Mustar explained the scholarship budget was from a grant from the Jakarta Government which annually receives an allocation by Rp 20 billion. It was used for regular scholarships from 12 state universities and 126 private universities.

"Principally, this scholarship is to accompany them as long as they still meet the educational requirements, such as their Cumulative Achievement Index (IPK) is still good, then accompany them until they graduate. That means the ones we choose are students who excel but are less capable. This is ongoing," he explained.

Scholarship recipients are Jakarta residents who study in Jakarta and belong to the underprivileged group as proven by a letter from the Jakarta Social Agency (Dinsos). It must also be a maximum of 25 years old and have a minimum GPA of 3.

Then Sutiyoso added education is the main factor in creating a competitive society in realizing a better quality Jakarta. Many factors are needed for education to be successful and of high quality, one of the most important of which is education financing.

"We must admit that in society there are still many obstacles in terms of education costs," he explained.

Thanks for coming from one of the scholarship recipients, Chynthya Padma Bestari from University of Indonesia. The scholarship was very important to support the educational process she was undergoing.

"For us, this is very useful and valuable to support college costs and achieve dreams," she stated.
