Acting Governor Teguh Ensures Rapid Handling of Flood Impact in Kampung Melayu

Acting Jakarta Governor, Teguh Setyabudi and Jakarta Regional Secretary Marullah Matali monitored the handling of flood impact in Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-district, East Jakarta.

Teguh visited the residential alleys to see the flood condition and dialogue with residents.

Teguh said the flood was caused by the overflowing of Ciliwung River at 3-4 AM.

"Now the water starts to recede. We advise for those are in charge to deal with the remaining flood to be careful in their work and maintain their health," Teguh said, Thursday (11/28).

After visiting the refugee at Kampung Melayu Urban Village Office, Teguh added that Jakarta Provincial Government through Social Agency will ensure that residents' basic needs are met. Their houses are temporarily unusable due to the flood.

"We make sure that food and medicine are also met. We also invite them to dialogue. The refugees should remain calm as long as we provide good facilities," Teguh added.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Social Agency Head, Premi Lasari, explained the refugees at Kampung Melayu Urban Village Office have received their basic needs.

Jakarta Provincial Government has also provided food and drink as well as sleeping equipment in the form of mattresses.

"We do quick handling with disaster alert post at Kampung Melayu Urban Village Office. Food, medicine, and mattresses have been distributed," she explained.

According to her, the refugees came from RW 06 of Kampung Melayu Urban Village, spread at RT 004, 005, 006, and 008.

"As many as 619 families and 1,954 people were affected by this flood. 120 people have been evacuated, while most of the other residents chose to remain on the second floor of their houses," she added.

As for information, Jakarta Provincial Government has distributed 500 food packages for breakfast and lunch.

The distributed basic needs were 20 pcs of five kilogram rice, 20 boxes of instant noodle, 20 pcs of cooking oil, 60 cans of sardines, 40 pcs biscuit, 10 pcs ketchup, and 10 boxes of mineral water.
