Search for Missing Glodok Plaza Fire Victims Still Ongoing

The joint team is still sweeping, cooling down and searching for victims at the location where fire hit Glodok Plaza, West Jakarta, until Friday (1/17).

Based on data from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), nine people who were trapped in the building were successfully rescued and have received medical treatment.

Apart from the survivors, 14 people were reported missing by their families to the on-site tactical post. Until now, six victims have been found, five of whom were evacuated dead and taken to Kramat Jati National Police Hospital for further identification. One other victim who was found has not yet been evacuated. The remaining eight victims are still being searched.

Fire Broke Out at Glodok Plaza, Firefighters Cool Down the Building Periodically

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji said, three victims were found dead on the 8th floor on Thursday (1/16). Two other victims were found in the same location on Friday (1/17) morning.

He conveyed that all the dead victims were evacuated by the Black Cross, PMI and Police DVI teams. The rescue team continues to sweep the area to find other victims who are allegedly still inside the building.

"As an anticipatory measure, officers from the Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Agency will continue to monitor the condition at the location. The joint team is also working with various agencies to ensure no other victims are missed in the search," he explained, Friday (1/17).

Previously, a fire broke out in Glodok Plaza, West Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/15) night. The fire allegedly started from the seventh floor before spreading to the eighth and ninth floors.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation, while evacuation and search for victims continue to be carried out," he stated.
