Jakarta Hit by 1,810 Disasters in 2024, BPBD Says

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded 1,810 disaster events throughout 2024.

"We want to ensure that all parties play an active roles in developing a more disaster resilient Jakarta,"

Disasters were dominated by fires in building or settlements (788 cases), followed by falling trees (435 cases), flooded roads (257 cases), other events (149 cases), floods (131 cases), landslides (37 cases), and strong winds (13 cases).

The disasters has resulted in 10,632 displaced persons, 87 fatalities, 302 injuries, and three people reported missing. Moreover, the disasters caused damage to 1,593 residential houses, 487 semi-permanent buildings, 441 kiosks/shop houses, 139 vehicles, 106 warehouse buildings. The total estimated loss due to the disaster reached Rp 442,193,643,628.

Floodwater in Parts of Jakarta Recede

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness. Thus, his side and related OPDs are actively conducting socialization, training and education to the residents to increase their awareness and readiness to face disasters.

"These programs include emergency response simulations, evacuation training, and education on disaster risk reduction involving various elements of society, including schools, communities, and businesses," he stated, Friday (1/31).

Education and training, he added, is not only make people to know what to do when a disaster occurs, but also to minimize risks early on.

"We want to ensure that all parties play an active roles in developing a more disaster resilient Jakarta. People are also expected to be proactive, protect their environment, and contact Jakarta Siaga 112 for emergencies," he conveyed.
