Acting Jakarta Governor Head, Teguh Setyabudi said the film industry has become an important part of driving the creative economy in Jakarta. Moreover, based on the calculation of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), Jakarta's creative economy, specifically in the film, animation, and video sub-sector, experienced a growth of 6.22 percent, which is higher than the overall growth of 5.04 percent.
"This shows that filmmaking is not just about art but also important in the creative economy that supports Jakarta's transformation into a national economic center and a global city," he expressed, during the Gala Dinner of the Film People Night themed, 'Towards Jakarta as a Global Cinema City' at Balai Agung Great Hall, Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (2/5).

According to him, it was an honor for the Jakarta Government to be a part of celebrating the works and the rapid development of the Indonesian film industry.
The number of viewers for Indonesian films reached around 70 million in 2024, indicating that the national film industry has a strong appeal and is part of a culture that reflects the diversity of stories and social realities of society in Indonesia.
"Since the era of state film production to the present, Jakarta has often served as a backdrop and inspiration for films that depict the life, dynamics, and development of the city and its people. From Nyai Dasima, Si Doel Anak Sekolahan, Janji Joni to modern films that have succeeded on national and international stages," he explained.
He continued Jakarta also has a long history in the development of the film industry, starting with the establishment of the first cinema on December 5, 1900, to the development of various modern studios that adopt CGI technology and Unreal Engine, such as Studio Lumine in Palmerah and Studio Guava in Pejaten. Then came the Tangki-wood, Bintaro wood, and Cipete Wood eras.
"Jakarta has become a home for artists to innovate and be creative," he continued.
He added the Jakarta Government would keep strengthening synergy with various parties to develop Jakarta's potential as a world cinema city.
"One of them is the activation of Kota Tua as a creative economic center in Jakarta, which requires strengthening the synergy between the Jakarta Government and the Ministry of Creative Economy, as well as other stakeholders," he added.
According to him, the potential of the Kota Tua as a film shooting location not only serves as a backdrop but also provides an opportunity to introduce and develop the Kota Tua as a representation of rich cultural diversity and history, making it a reference for an interesting tourist destination.
"Hopefully, the Tempo Film Festival will be one of the creative activities supporting the celebration of Jakarta's 500th anniversary while also welcoming National Film Month in March," he hoped.
Creative Economy Ministry, Teuku Riefky Harsya, added his team, together with Bappeda and Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, is collaborating to activate Jakarta as a creative economy city, particularly based on cinema.
This would be conducted through various creative economic activities from 2025 to 2027, to welcome five centuries of Jakarta as the True Identity of Indonesia, the World Megapolis.
"This is done to support Jakarta's status as a global city and a cinema city," he added.
Attending the Gala Dinner event for Film Insan at Jakarta City Hall were Creative Economy Minister, Teuku Riefky Harsya; Jakarta Governor from 1997 to 2007, Sutiyoso; Acting Jakarta Governor from 2016 to 2017, Sumarsono; the elected Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno; and City Secretary, Marullah Matali.
