Commission D Legislator Optimistic That Additional RTHs will Have Positive Impacts

The Jakarta Provincial Government will add 21 Green Open Space (RTHs) for City Budget 2025. This plan is fully supported by Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission D Legislator, Bun Joi Phiau.

"The built parks must be inclusive and can be accessed by everyone,"

He is optimistic that the additional RTHs will give positive impacts to the public, starting from a greener environment to improving air quality.

City to Construct 21 Public Open Spaces in 2025

According to him, this is a step forward in implementing Law (UU) No. 26/2007 on Spatial Planning which requires 30 percent of city area for RTH.

"This is a good thing to green Jakarta while making its citizens happier," he expressed, Thursday (2/13).

In developing RTH, he reminded City Park and Forestry (Tamhut) Agency to ensure that RTH can be optimally utilized for the public.

"RTH development should not burden the local residents and disrupt their activities," he conveyed.

Moreover, he also wants RTH development to also consider providing sufficient parking pockets and public transport that can be accessed by public.

"The Jakarta Government must also open parks for community activities, thus Jakartans can feel the full benefits of this RTH development," he said.

However, Bun Joi appreciated the efforts made by Tamhut Agency which involving residents in developing RTH so that the parks built will be equipped with faciltiies needed by residents.

"The built parks must be inclusive and can be accessed by everyone. Moreover, the park's aesthetics must be balanced with its functional facilities," he added.

He hopes that the RTHs that will be built to have a high absorption capacity to help reduce the risk of flooding.

"RTH can be optimized for minimizing flooding, maybe by adding retention basin, that can also increase its aesthetics," he mentioned.

For information, the Jakarta Government through Tamhut Agency expands Green Open Spaces (RTHs) to improve environmental quality and provide interaction space for the community.

After building 14 new RTHs and arranging 24 locations in 2024, the city government targets to build another 21 new RTHs and arrange 73 locations this year. The development of 21 new RTHs, consisting of 15 parks, 3 city forests, one public cemetery, one green lane, and one nursery garden.

Whereas the RTH arrangement in 73 locations is consisting of 24 parks, 8 green lanes, 20 public ceeteries, 7 city forests, 4 nursery gardens, and 10 locations in Ragunan Zoo.
