Jakarta Commits to Realizing National Waste Management Pilot Project

The Jakarta Government is committed to making Jakarta a model for effective, sustainable, and collaborative urban waste management at the national level.

With our joint efforts, we are able to make Jakarta a national model

Acting Jakarta Governor, Teguh Setyabudi, appreciated the Environment Minister for providing guidance, thus the Environment Agency, along with related parties, had completed the preparation of the roadmap for accelerating waste management completion for the province in 2025-2026.

"With our joint efforts, we are able to make Jakarta a national model for effective, sustainable, and collaborative urban waste management," he expressed, when he attended a readiness call for the implementation of the waste management roadmap at North Jakarta Mayor's Office, Monday (2/17).

North Jakarta Becomes a Pilot Project for Urban Waste Management in Indonesia

According to him, this is a concrete manifestation of the Jakarta Government's commitment to support the acceleration of national waste management resolution as outlined in the Jakarta Clean Waste Collaboration Action Declaration, Indonesia Clean.

He explained the regional action plan for waste management in Jakarta encompassed upstream to downstream aspects, starting with increasing community participation in the selection and strengthening of waste banks, as well as circular economy initiatives.

The second was in the central part through the optimization of TPS and TPS 3R with the application of biodegradable waste management technology and efficient waste transportation.

"The third is in the downstream sector through capacity and facility improvements such as RDF Plant and expanding partnerships with the private sector to reduce waste disposal to landfills," he explained.

Aside that, the Jakarta Government welcomed the selection of North Jakarta as a model for the implementation of urban waste management systems, as well as Tanjung Priok Sub-district as a model for community-based waste management, particularly in the hotel, restaurant, and cafe sector.

"Hope this can inspire, strengthen the synergy and participation of various elements of society to manage waste in Jakarta better, integrated and environmentally friendly," he hoped.

Environment Minister, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, appreciated the Jakarta Government for completing the waste management roadmap on time.

"This is a bold step because this roadmap is presented to the Environment Ministry and the public regarding the efforts being made, thus all parties can understand in detail and demand sincerity and seriousness in waste management," he explained.

He added the completion of the waste management roadmap in North Jakarta would serve as a model for other cities and regencies in Indonesia.

"We'll also ask all provincial and city governments in Indonesia to finalize the roadmap and develop steps for the curative management of waste throughout Indonesia," he said.
