RW 08, Petukangan Selatan will Be Pilot Project for Waste Sorting in S. Jakarta

As many as 362 residences living in the Bumi Pesanggrahan Mas Housing Complex, Jalan Griya Raya, RW 08, Petukangan Selatan Urban Village, Pesanggrahan Sub-district, South Jakarta have carried out independent waste sorting.

It has an impact on reducing waste disposal to the Bantar Gebang TPST

The action above received appreciation from South Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin, where it has an economic impact.  

"Very good, they have implemented waste sorting since early on. Of course, it has an impact on reducing waste disposal to the Bantar Gebang Landfill," he expressed, Monday (11/18).

Until now, he explained, it had not been implemented by 27 houses in Bumi Pesanggrahan Mas Housing because they were new residents who had not been socialized or were in an empty state.

"RW 08, Petukangan Selatan will be a pilot project for a waste sorting area for South Jakarta residents," he explained.

In handling waste in residential areas, schools, offices, and restaurants, he added collaboration was needed to solve waste at the source.

"If we can resolve waste from the source by collaborating with other elements, I'm sure that South Jakarta will contribute 25 percent to the disposal of waste to the final place," he explained.

South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency Head, Mohammad Amin added that as an area with a high population density, South Jakarta also faces major challenges in terms of waste management.

South Jakarta can produce 1,400 tons of waste per day. However, as much as 2,404 tons of waste per year has been successfully reduced through management conducted by the Waste Management Division (BPS), Reusable and Environmentally Friendly Waste Management Sites (TPS 3R), waste banks, composting, and maggots.

"Hopefully, South Jakarta residents can get used to sorting, processing, or utilizing their household waste. Besides not throwing away too much waste, it can also generate economic value for them," he uttered.
