North Jakarta KPKP Targets to Sterilize 2,000 Cats This Year

North Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency targets to sterilize 2,000 cats this year.

Jakarta Sterilizes 1,000 Stray Cats to Reduce Population

North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Unang Rustanto said the target is higher compared to last year. The activity is aimed to maximize the cat population handling.

"2024 target was 500 cats, and this year is 2,000 cats," he said, Wednesday (2/26).

In order to reach the target, the sub-agency cooperates with private clinic, Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI), and Jakarta Animal Health and Livestock Service Center.

The free cat sterilization this year has been starting since January and is planned to run up to December.

"We need to handle cat population since the animal breed quickly," he added.

According to him, last year vaccination was applied for 5,390 pets. For this year target is 5,552 pets namely 1,335 dogs, 4,172 cats, 35 monkeys, and 10 weasels.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency's Animal Husbandry and Health Section Head, Liza Engkalika explained 100 cats have been sterilized up to January 2025.

"The free anti-rabies vaccination has reached 500 pets," she explained.
