Jakarta City Council Commission E Legislator, Chicha Koeswoyo, supports the Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno's proposal to launch a center for Betawi souvenirs in Jakarta.
Agreed, it's very nice
According to her, each province must have distinctive souvenirs that reflect the local wisdom of each region.
"Agreed, it's very nice because each province has its own characteristics. The cultural wealth of Betawi, for instance, Ondel-ondel, jenang dodol, kerak telor, can be made as souvenirs from Jakarta," she expressed, Thursday (2/27).
Vice Governor Rano: It is Time for Jakarta to Own Souvenir CenterShe explained SMEs should be involved to represent each administrative city area in the development of Jakarta's souvenir center.
"There also needs to be curation to ensure product quality and attractive packaging," she explained.
According to her, the development of this souvenir center could serve as a platform for local SMEs to grow their businesses and promote Betawi's unique products to the wider community.
"Of course, we need to involve them by region. We have six regions including Seribu Islands, but we should curate it first, thus the packaging is neat and the taste is good, making it attractive," she explained.
She hoped that it would improve their economy and Jakarta will be better known for its typical souvenirs that attract tourists.
"Even, Jakarta can also be better known through those souvenirs," she added.
The same support also came from another legislator, Yudha Permana.
"I completely agree because we had proposed the same thing in the Commission E meeting with the Cultura Agency four years ago, but it has not been realized yet," he explained.
Therefore, he asked the Jakarta Government to also prepare easy transportation access for tourists to reach the souvenir center and to provide adequate parking space to avoid traffic congestion.
"SMEs must be involved in providing typical souvenirs from Jakarta. Thus, the economy and the welfare of the SMEs can also improve," he added.
