"I visit at least two hotels every week to ensure the regulation is enacted," he said, Thursday (2/27).

He added that the surge in consumption in restaurants and hotels during Ramadan has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of waste, especially leftover food and packaging. Therefore, the agency will tighten supervision and take action against those who do not comply.

According to him, the policy is already in accordance with Ministry of Environmental and Forestry that encourage more responsible waste management for business sector.

"We already gave them three years since the regulation was issued. Tighter supervision and sanction to be applied later," he admitted.

The agency appeals hospitality sectors to adapt with the regulation and prepare waste sorting facility, also cooperates with third party for waste processing.

"Hopefully the supervision will decrease the impact due to the waste increase during Ramadan month," he stated.
