Prices of Strategic Food Products in Jakarta Relatively Controlled

The statement above was conveyed by City Secretary Economy and Finance Acting Assistant, Suharini Eliawati on the sidelines of the High Level Meeting (HLM) of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), in the Pola Room, Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (3/5).

According to her, the price hike was not caused by a shortage of supply but was caused by rising market demand before and at the beginning of Ramadhan.

"Besides red chili, food products such as meat and rice are still within a comfortable price range for buyers and traders," she explained.

She added that in the meeting, the BI Representative Office in Jakarta said that deflation occurred in February despite not as deep as in January 2025. Then from the period 2019 to 2024, data shows that the highest increase in demand occurred during Ramadhan.

The trend of increasing demand usually continues to rise until it peaks around the time of Idulfitri. After that, the trend of demand will decline along with the homecoming season when many people return to their hometowns.

To anticipate price hikes, she stated the Jakarta Government had prepared more than 290 cheap food markets in various locations such as urban village offices, RPTRAs, city mayor's offices, apartments, and residential areas.

"We ensure that the food sold is very affordable," she said.
