City Government Provides Urban Farming Facility for Bayam Flat Occupants

Jakarta Provincial Government is about to facilitate urban farming activity for Bayam Flat occupants as part of the 100-day program of Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung and Vice Governor, Rano Karno.

The program is focused on arranging Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area, including providing 3,000 square meter land around the Operational Support Worker Housing (HPPO) for urban agriculture.
Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati said urban farming aims to meet food needs as well as provide income for residents.

The developed urban farming model, she added, uses a hydroponic technology in a green house. The method is chosen since it is accordance with the land condition, does not depend on the weather, and have higher selling
value of the product.Plants to be cultivated are vegetables, herbs, family medicinal, and seasonal fruits such as melons.
Then the annual fruit plants will be planted outside the greenhouse to meet the residents needs while also greening the JIS area.
In addition to fulfil food needs, she stated, the program is also expected to be an urban farming tourism site for Jakarta residents who have limited land.
"Hopefully the program will be able to improve the residents welfare, and also introduce the concept widely," she stated.
