Jakarta Intensifies OMC to Anticipate Extreme Rain

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said, the Weather Modification Operations (WMO) has been conducted to anticipate the potential for extreme weather in Jakarta from March 11 to 20, 2025.

We are gradually making weather modifications

This effort was made after coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Head, Dwikorita Karnawati.

"This morning I'd already communicated with the Head of the BMKG. We are gradually making weather modifications," he expressed, at the Kramat Jati Wholesale Market, East Jakarta, Monday (3/10).

This weather modification would be intensified the following day, which the BMKG predicted as the peak of the potential extreme weather. He also instructed the Head of the Water Resources Agency to start weather modification earlier in a bid to minimize the impacts of extreme weather.

"During my visit to the flood refugees at Otista Sport Hall, East Jakarta, last Wednesday, I urged residents to be aware of the forecast for extreme rainfall in Jakarta from March 11 to 20," he explained.

He ensured that the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), in cooperation with the BMKG, would conduct weather modification operations to reduce high rainfall.

"We're ready to anticipate, including if there will indeed be rainfall from March 11 to March 20 as reported by the BMKG," he asserted.
