Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in collaboration with Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and PT. Rekayasa Atmosphere Indonesia (PT. RAI) conducts Weather Modification Operation (OMC).
"OMC implementation aims to reduce and minimize extreme rain,"
Jakarta BPBD's Logistics and Equipment Sub-group Head, Michael Sitanggang said, OMC is implemented as a strategic effort in minimizing the potential for extreme rain that can cause hydrometeorological disasters.
Commission B Supports Optimization of Flood Prevention Infrastructure"OMC implementation aims to reduce and minimize extreme rain. We hope the scheduled activities can run effectively," he stated at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, Saturday (2/1).
OMC, he explained, is an effort to anticipate hydrometeorological disasters, given the recent trend of increased rainfall.
"Hopefully the synergy between Jakarta BPBD, BMKG, and PT. RAI can minimize disaster risks and protect people from the adverse effects of extreme weather," he expressed.
Meanwhile, BMKG's Weather Modification Management Acting Director, Budi Harsoyo said that the OMC will be carried out until the next six days.
He conveyed that based on the latest weather analysis, the
rain cloud growth still doesn't show any potential that can cause rain with moderate to heavy intensity."Today, there is still no potential for clouds to cause moderate to heavy rain until late afternoon. Then, cloud growth in mainland of Jakarta and its surroundings has not been seen," he mentioned.
