Weather Modification Operation Remains Intensified

Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling Agency (BPBD) together with BMKG, Indonesian Air Force, and PT Rekayasa Atmosphere Indonesia (RAI) keep intensifying the Weather Modification Operation (OMC).

BMKG reported the area analysis of Jakarta, West Java, and Banten were predicted to face light, medium, and up to heavy rain on Sunday (3/16).

Acting BMKG's Weather Modification Management Director, Budi Harsoyo said that there is a significant increase in the Surge Index on March 17-18, 2025. Based on the Surge Index data, there is an increase of around +11.9 and a significant CENS value on the next day and the day after.

"It significantly increases the cloud potential in west of Java in the next days," Budi said, Monday (3/17).

Head of the Logistics and Equipment Subgroup and spokesperson for Jakarta Weather Modification Operation (OMC) 2025, Michael Sitanggang explained his side conducted three flight sorties on the sixth day of operation.

The implementation of OMC with three flight sorties using 2.4 tons of hygroscopic seeding material with a total flight duration of 5 hours 40 minutes on Sunday (3/16) yesterday.

The seeding was run in Pandeglang and Serang Regencies for first sortie, second sortie was in Southwest region of Pandeglang, Banten, Lebak, and the Sunda Strait waters, and third sortie was in Southwest of Pandeglang, Lebak Regency, and the Sunda Strait Waters.

He added that a total of 15 sorties have been carried out with a total use of seeding materials reaching 12 tons and a cumulative flight time of 31 hours 30 minutes since the start of the third phase of OMC Jakarta starting on March 11, 2025.

"We keep cooperate with BMKG to monitor the weather to ensure Jakarta is safe from hydrometeorology disaster during the OMC implementation," he stated.
