Jakarta Hosts The UN Tourism 37th CAP-CSA Joint Commission Meeting

Jakarta is hosting a prestigious international event, The UN Tourism 37th Joint Commission Meeting for the East Asia and Pacific Commission (CAP) and the South Asia Commission (CSA), which is held at Mulia Senayan Hotel from April 15 to 16, 2025.

This event strengthens Jakarta's position as a premier destination

This annual event brings together hundreds of delegates from UN Tourism member countries, affiliate members, international and regional organizations, as well as experts in global tourism in a strategic forum aimed at discussing policy directions and collaboration in the regional tourism sector.

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) Head, Andhika Permata expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for organizing this event in Jakarta.

Jakarta-France Strengthen Cooperation in Various Sectors

The forum titled 'Tourism Policy in the Circular Economy' highlights the urgency of transforming the tourism sector towards a sustainable circular economy model, through resource efficiency, waste reduction, and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"This event strengthens Jakarta's position as a premier destination for international-scale Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE)," he expressed, Wednesday (4/16).

As part of the event series, the Disparekraf also facilitated a city tour on the first day of the event. The delegates were invited to visit the National Museum of Indonesia, which houses more than 140,000 collections of culture and history of the archipelago. Then, the visit to Sarinah, the legendary shopping center that has now become the main showcase for hundreds of local MSMEs and Indonesian creative brands, took place on the second day.

Jakarta Disparekraf's Marketing and Attraction Section Head, Sherly Yuliana explained that besides promoting tourism, city tour is also a diplomation of culture and creative economy.

"It also aims to stengthen relationship between countries through the exchange of stories, experiences, and cross-cultural inspiration," she explained.

Here is the main agenda taking place over these two days:

• The 37th Joint Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia

• The 60th Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia (CSA)

• The 56th Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia & the Pacific (CAP)

• UN Tourism Regional Forum on Tourism Policy on Circular Economy

• Networking dinner session to strengthen the network among delegates

As a commitment to the principles of sustainable tourism, the delegates attending The UN Tourism 37th CAP-CSA Joint Commission Meeting will also receive exclusive souvenirs in the form of custom wooden tumblers and shopping pouches typical of Jakarta, specially designed with local designs and touches from creative economy practitioners under Jakarta's Disparekraf.

The wooden tumblers distributed are not just drinking vessels, but a symbol of a lifestyle change towards environmentally friendly habits. By reducing the use of single-use plastic bottles, delegates are invited to be part of a global movement that is more environmentally conscious.

Meanwhile, the typical Jakarta shopping pouch is made by local MSMEs using eco-friendly materials and designs that reflect the cultural richness of Jakarta. This bag is not only functional as a substitute for plastic bags, but also serves as a creative promotional medium that brings the story of Jakarta to the international stage.

This souvenir represents the spirit of the city of Jakarta in supporting sustainable development goals, while also showcasing local creations that emphasize sustainability, uniqueness, and a commitment to the creative economy.

"Through this simple yet impactful step, Jakarta invites all delegations to not only talk about sustainability but also to live it, starting from the small things we bring every day," he stated.
