Baduy Tribe Meets Pramono-Rano, Leaves Message of Protecting Nature

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung and his deputy, Rano Karno, received a visit from 30 representatives of Baduy Tribe from Banten at Great Hall, Jakarta City Hall, Friday (5/9).

Preserving the natural environment is also our main program

Their arrival, led by Baduy Traditional Government Chief, Jaro Oom, is to foster relationships and together invite Jakarta to preserve nature and the environment.

In his speech, Pramono welcomed their arrival and expressed his respect. He also emphasized that the preservation of nature and the environment is a key program of his administration along with his deputy.

"Preserving the natural environment is also our main program," he expressed.

He explained the Jakarta Government is making various efforts to preserve the environment, such as river normalization, dredging, and addressing pollution. He also expressed his commitment to environmental protection considering Jakarta is often affected by water flow from upstream areas.

"We are now focused on maintaining the parks in Jakarta, how we normalize the rivers and dredge them again. We clean up the pollution and we treat it seriously," he explained.

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno admitted he has had an emotional closeness with the Baduy community since taking office as the Governor of Banten. He also appreciates their visit to Jakarta and promises to continue coordinating with the Banten Government to support efforts in preserving nature in Baduy.

On this occasion, he also invited them to attend Jakarta's 500th anniversary celebration in 2027.

Baduy Indigenous Government Chair, Jaro Oom, stated despite Jakarta is outside the Baduy customary land, the Baduy people know Jakarta as their closest brother, given that several rivers from their region flow into Jakarta and Tangerang.

The Baduy community has been actively protecting the environment and nature in their area. Therefore, he want Jakarta people to also take care of their environment to prevent disasters.

"We came today to convey the message from the customary council to jointly preserve nature," he explained.

On that occasion, the representatives of the Baduy Tribe presented a new machete as a sign of respect to Governor Pramono Anung. They hope that this gathering could strengthen relationships and cooperation in preserving nature in Banten and Jakarta.
