West Jakarta KPKP Intensifies Sacrificial Animal Health Monitoring

Approaching Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijri, the West Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency has intensified the monitoring and health inspection of sacrificial animals. This time, the inspection was conducted on Jalan Meruya Ilir, RT 05/01, Kebon Jeruk Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk Sub-district.

"At this shelter, we have examined a total of 111 sacrificial animals,"

West Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Novy C. Palit, conveyed that health inspection aims to prevent diseases that can affect sacrificial animals, such as anthrax and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

"In today's inspection, we also involved officers from Animal Health and Husbandry Service Center of the Jakarta KPKP Agency," she mentioned, on Tuesday (5/27).

Novy explained that samples were collected by drawing blood from the anumals using the smear method. Besides, her side also taken soil samples from the location for laboratory testing.

Although the testing is still ongoing, Novy confirmed that, to date, no indications of anthrax or other diseases have been found at sacrificial shelters in West Jakarta.

"At this shelter, we have examined a total of 111 sacrificial animals, both cattles and goats. All of the samples collected today will get their laboratory test results tomorrow simultaneously," she informed.

Meanwhile, Syaiful Anwar, owner of the sacrificial animal shelter Putra Jakarta Farm, welcomed the initiative by West Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency.

He believes the inspections are essential to ensure that the animals being sold are fit and meet the required standards for sacrifice.

"Alhamdulillah, all the animals inspected are healthy because we already have prior health certificates from their regions of origin. The sacrificial animals I sell have also been vaccinated and given vitamins," he explained.
