The Jakarta Government has begun the construction of a 1.4-kilometer flood mitigation embankment in Muara Angke, North Jakarta.
As the initial stage, the work spent a budget of Rp 52 billion
This work is targeted for completion by the end of this year.
The statement above was stated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung while accompanied by Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency Head, Ika Agustin Ningrum after reviewing the construction of the floor mitigation embankment.
Pramono Explains How City Government Prepares for Tidal Wave"Embankment will be built approximately 1.4 kilometers long and elevated by 2.5 meters. This means that at 2.5 meters, it will be able to hold back tidal water up to above 2.5 meters. Currently, the elevation is approximately 1.8 meters," he expressed, Thursday (6/12).
Pramono emphasized the Jakarta Government's commitment to supporting the Giant Sea Wall project or NCICD (National Capital Integrated Coastal Development). Initially, the government was responsible for building this project along 12 kilometers, but it has now increased to 19 kilometers.
"The government is starting a new approach for handling medium-term issues first," he expressed.
Next, in 2026, the embankment construction would continue for 1 kilometer, bringing the total length of the embankment built to 2.4 kilometers. Hopefully, the coastal flooding in Muara Angke could be managed well.
"Hopefully, we can address the tidal flooding in this area in the short to medium term, although there are still some others," he explained.
His side was committed to preparing the construction of embankments on the coast to address the issue of tidal flooding. He also highlighted the problem of land subsidence in Jakarta that continues to occur.
Therefore, the government immediately made regulations regarding the prohibition of groundwater extraction in affected areas to prevent the accelerated subsidence of the land. In the future, they would distribute clean water to the surrounding community through PAM Jaya.
"That's why, this area will be among those where we will create regulations to prevent groundwater extraction," he uttered.
Jakarta SDA Agency Head, Ika Agustin Ningrum added, this embankment would protect approximately 120 hectares of the surrounding area and 282 buildings.
"As the initial stage, the work spent a budget of Rp 52 billion," she stated.
