Arifin Lepas 60 Peserta dari Kecamatan Gambir Berkunjung TPST Bantargebang

Mayor Arifin: RW Leaders Must Actively Instruct Residents on Waste Sorting

Central Jakarta Mayor, Arifin, urged the neighborhood unit (RW) leaders in his area to more actively instruct their residents to separate organic and inorganic waste from their homes.

Out of 386 RWs, more than 400 waste banks have been made

He asserted, this aimed to further optimize the operational activities of waste bank institutions in 386 RWs.

"You (RW leaders) need to instruct residents to start separating organic and inorganic waste at home. This way, the waste bank can operate and generate money as cash," he expressed, when he released 60 participants of the Gambir Sub-district Waste Management Neighborhood Association (BPS RW) who were visiting Bantargebang Landfill, Monday (6/16).

According to him, the visit to Bantargebang Landfill was very good, to increase residents' awareness about the waste management process, starting from collection in each RW to the LPS and then to the Bantargebang Landfill in Bekasi.

The volume of waste produced by Jakarta people is around 8,000 tons per day. This requires joint handling," he explained.

Central Jakarta Environment Sub-agency Head, Slamet Riyadi explained, the visit of BPS RW officials from eight sub-districts to Bantargebang is a follow-up to Governor's Call No. 77/2020 on Waste Management at RW level.

He added it would be conducted in stages over the next eight days.

So, his party would continue to raise awareness among residents to sort waste at the source, which currently only reaches 13 percent.

"Out of 386 RWs, more than 400 waste banks have been made. This means that some RWs have more than one," he concluded.
