Let's Visit Painting Art Exhibition 'From Betawi for Jakarta' at Jakarta City Hall

The Jakarta Government presents a solo art exhibition of paintings by Sarnadi Adam titled 'Dari Betawi untuk Jakarta' (From Betawi for Jakarta).

Very supportive, interesting

This cultural art painting exhibition has been opened at the Jakarta City Hall Pendopo, precisely at the hallway of Block D City Hall, and the lobby of Graha Ali Sadikin since last Monday. Some 28 paintings from Betawi land will be displayed until June 30, 2025.

This is a form of support from the Jakarta Government for the preservation of Betawi culture in Jakarta.

28 Betawi Art Painters Exhibited at City Hall

Sarnadi Adam is known as a renowned painter born in Simprug, Kebayoran, South Jakarta, on August 27, 1956. He graduated from the Indonesian Fine Arts School in Yogyakarta and then continued his education at ISI Yogyakarta, majoring in painting, graduating in 1985.

He also took a Master's Program in Fine Arts at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta. And in 2012, he pursued a doctoral program at the same institute until completion.

He also dedicated himself as a lecturer in the Fine Arts Department at University of Jakarta since 1986. His works have traveled to various countries in Europe, America, and Asia, and are collected by many important institutions and individuals, including the Jakarta Arts Council, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Bank Indonesia, and President of Indonesia.

One of the visitors to the painting exhibition, Maryam (63), admitted to admiring Sarnadi Adam's work, especially because of his ability to portray the essence of Betawi culture very authentically.

I like his painting. Especially since it already depicts Betawi. And indeed, Betawi is truly like this. So, it matches," she expressed, after being met at City Hall, Wednesday (6/25).

As an art enthusiast, she strongly supports holding an exhibition of such paintings every year at the City Hall.

"Very supportive, interesting. So, I always attend exhibitions. I enjoy exhibitions, especially painting art," she stated.
