Pramono: Pemprov DKI Kaji Rencana Pembangunan Pasar Taman Puring

Taman Puring Market Revitalization Must Be Accompanied by Security System Evaluation

Jakarta City Council's Commission B Member, Dwi Rio Sambodo supports the Jakarta Provincial Government's plan to revitalize Taman Puring Market after the fire incident several days ago.

comprehensive evaluation of the security system

He emphasized that the market has very important economic and social value for the lives of the surrounding community.

"Revitalization is not simply about rebuilding. A comprehensive evaluation of the security system, particularly electrical installations and fire mitigation, is necessary," he said, Thursday (7/31).

Jakarta Govt to Restore Taman Puring Market Facilities

Rio recalled that Taman Puring Market has experienced three major fires. The first fire in 2002 destroyed 580 stalls belonging to 370 vendors. A similar fire in 2005 destroyed 80 stalls, and the most recent in 2025 destroyed around 500 stalls.

"The city government must immediately audit the electrical installations in all traditional markets and ensure that portable fire extinguishers are available in every block. We have even encouraged a self-service fire extinguisher program at the neighborhood unit level, including allocating a dedicated budget for this," he explained.

Rio also encouraged the Fire and Rescue Agency to strengthen the Fire Task Force in 267 sub-districts, including regularly holding fire training and simulations for market residents.

Education about the dangers of electrical short circuits and stove use is also considered important, especially in densely populated areas like Taman Puring. Rio continued, the Jakarta Provincial Government needs to develop a more integrated fire prevention master plan.

"This includes the strategic relocation of fire-prone markets, the development of an early detection system, and collaboration with PLN to upgrade the electricity network," he stated.
