This event is an important momentum to strengthen official relations between cities while expanding Jakarta's international collaboration network.

On his speech, Governor Pramono expressed his gratitude for being able to fulfill a promise he had made to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Dato' Seri Maimunah, to visit in person.

City Council Supports Sister City Collaboration between Jakarta and New York

"Alhamdulillah, I was able to fulfill my promise to Mrs. Maimunah to come to Kuala Lumpur in the spirit of strengthening the sister city relationship between Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. We are close neighbors, share history and culture, and share the same goal by building a sustainable future for our residents," Pramono said, as quoted from Jakarta Provincial Government's press release, Monday (8/11).

This signing makes Kuala Lumpur the third sister city to be successfully established in the six months of Governor Pramono Anung's term, after previously establishing partnerships with Chungcheongnam-do (South Korea) and Heidelberg (Germany).

Pramono emphasized that Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur face similar challenges from traffic congestion, increasing demand for public services, to the threat of climate change. But they have significant opportunities to learn from and support each other.

Through this sister city partnership, the two cities agreed to strengthen collaboration in various strategic areas, including public health and welfare, flood prevention and mitigation, green building development and energy decarbonization, sustainable transportation, waste management, and cultural exchange and tourism.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Dato' Seri Maimunah, appreciated the visit of Governor Pramono.

"Pramono's presence in Kuala Lumpur is a meaningful gesture that we greatly appreciate. The partnership between Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta is growing stronger, and I am optimistic that this collaboration will bring tangible benefits to both cities," Maimunah stated.

Closing the meeting, Governor Pramono emphasized that this sister city collaboration is not merely symbolic, but rather a concrete platform for addressing shared challenges and building resilient, livable, and sustainable cities for future generations.
