Pemprov DKI Kembangkan 100 Kampung Mandiri Pangan Tahun Ini

City Govt Develops 100 Food Self-Sufficient Villages for Food Security

The Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency (KPKP) held a Technical Guidance (Bimtek) on the Development of Kampung Mandiri (MAPAN) or Food Self-Sufficient Villages and the Utilization of Rooftops for Urban Farming at the KPKP Agency on Jalan Gunung Sahari Raya, Central Jakarta.

New economies can grow, even MSMEs

This Bimtek was attended by participants consisting of urban farming advocates and RW representatives who have the potential to become MAPAN Villages.

There were speakers, namely Gangnam Garden Manager, Pegangsaan Dua, North Jakarta, Pitra Seva, and Chairman of P4S Daun Hijau 01003 CPT, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.

Jakarta KPKP Agency's Agriculture Section Head, Mujiati said, this activity aimed to improve land utilization to support food security in Jakarta.

She stated that the Kampung Mandiri program is part of the Jakarta Plant Movement, with development based at RW level.

"Hopefully, more than 50 percent of residents in a neighborhood participate in planting around their environment, supported by community gardens or the utilization of available land," she expressed, Thursday (8/14).

Besides meeting some of the residents' food needs, this step also opens up new business opportunities.

"From unused land, new economies can grow, even MSMEs. Production doesn't stop at fresh vegetables but can extend to processing and marketing," she explained.

This year, her party aimed to create MAPAN Villages in 100 RWs. One example was in RW 07 Kembangan Utara Urban Village, where all RTs have implemented urban farming, even utilizing private land as a community garden.

She added that those RWs were chosen based on the consideration of a minimum land availability of 500 square meters as a community garden. The land would serve as a center for production, seedlings, marketing, and also as a training facility for residents.

"After Bimtek, we will facilitate gardening classes in each RW to expand the reach of the program," she added.

Besides horizontal land, the utilization of rooftops also became a focus. Office rooftops of urban village offices, health centers, schools, or other buildings were deemed potential places for production as well as community education centers.

This program would continue to be developed in the coming years as part of the Asta Cita of the President, specifically to realize food independence.

"Jakarta is very dependent on food supplies from other regions. By building from the smallest scope, such as RW, we can reduce that dependence. Despite not 100 percent, at least we can become more independent," she closed.
