46,467 People Flock to Ragunan Zoo during Independence Day holiday

As many as 46,467 visitors were recorded at Ragunan Zoo (TMR), Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta during the Independence Day's 80th anniversary holiday and joint leave.

Ragunan Zoo Public Relations, Wahyudi Bambang said, various interesting events and decorations were held to attract more tourists and to commemorate Independence Day.

"We have red and white decorations and a special animal competition, especially for chimpanzees," he expressed, Tuesday (8/19).

He explained the animal competition aimed to entertain and introduce traditional competitions such as Panjat Pinang (greasy pole), Eating Oranges, and Sack Races.

"Chimpanzee just eats like on a regular day, but we package it as a competition to make visitors even happier," he explained.

He detailed that the number of visitors on Saturday (8/16) was 13,550 people. Then, on Sunday (8/17), it reached 21,203 and 11,714 on Monday (8/18).

"Our target is 90,000, but it seems that many residents are still engaging in Independence Day activities in their respective areas," he explained.

One of the tourists, Refi (35), said she visited Ragunan Zoo because she wanted to have a city staycation so she could participate in the Independence Day competitions.

"Since it's nearby, I'll just take my kids to the zoo and also educate them about the different types of animals there," she admitted.
