Dangerous Food Still Haunting Markets in North Jakarta

Citizens seemed to be extra aware when shopping food products containing dangerous substances in traditional markets in North Jakarta. Evidently, the officers found seven food samples containing formalin and chlorine from 10 traditional markets during sudden inspection on last Thursday (6/11) and Friday (6/12). 

Such findings are consisting of sausage containing chlorine and beef rind with formalin

Those 10 markets are Inpres Kelapa Gading Timur, Mandiri, Tugu, Lontar, Sunter Podomoro, Sungai Bambu, Lokbin Rorotan, Kalibaru, Muara Karang and Pluit market.

N. Jakarta Tightens Food Monitoring in Several Traditional Markets

“Such findings are consisting of sausage containing chlorine and beef rind with formalin. Those seven samples were taken from 6 markets,” said Head of North Jakarta Marine, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-Department, Una Rusmana, Thursday (7/7).

Rusmana revealed that the formalin and chlorine are very dangerous substances for human health. If people consume it, it can cause kidney and liver damage, as well as cancer.

Government Assistant of North Jakarta, Tonny Sukanda added the peddlers who are still selling dangerous food products have been warned. In future, if the case is still found, they will get guidance sanction.

“All this time, they just don’t know. Definitely, we just want people can consume good food without any dangerous substance threat,” he expressed.
