Transjakarta Praised for Providing Feeding Areas for Stray Cats

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission B Member, Francine Widjojo, appreciated PT Transjakarta's initiative to provide special feeding areas for stray cats at Kebayoran and Velbak Bus Stops that connected to Kebayoran Skywalk.

"... please feed them only in the designated spots provided by Transjakarta,"

Francine personnally visited the location and observed the feeding facilities provided for stray cats. She viewed Transjakarta's action as a sign of empathy toward animals, without compromising the comfort of other public transport users.

"When I receive public complaints regarding Kebayoran Skywalk, I pushed for the provision of special feeding areas for stray cats, as already practiced by MRT Jakarta since 2022," she shared on Wednesday (10/8).

Commission B Wants Central Government to Support Transportation Subsidies

She believes the policy reflects care for fellow living beings. She also encouraged the control of stray cat populations through a sterilization program in collaboration with the South Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency.

Francine further urged the public to maintain cleanliness and use eco-friendly containers when feeding cats in the designated areas.

"To Transjakarta users who kindly share with stray cats, please feed them only in the designated spots provided by Transjakarta. Keep the area clean and use eco-friendly containers like paper,” she said.

She emphasized that the provision of feeding areas for stray cats carries significant meaning, as it helps fulfill animal rights, particularly the right to be free from hunger and thirst.

Francine hopes that this positive action by Transjakarta and MRT Jakarta will be followed by other public transport operators.

"Hopefully, more designated feeding areas for stray cats can be added at other Transjakarta bus stops. I also hope this good practice can be adopted by LRT Jakarta, KAI, and KRL Commuter Line," she expressed.
