Residents Say JPO Facilities in North Jakarta Are Getting Better

People using pedestrian bridges (JPOs) in North Jakarta are increasingly feeling safe and comfortable. Furthermore, nearly all JPOs in North Jakarta are equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV).

One of a collage students living in Tanjung Priok District, Fajar Rayhan (21), admitted he often uses pedestrian bridge to catch public transportation.

According to him, one of the frequently used pedestrian bridges is on Jalan Yos Sudarso, directly in front of Artha Gading Mall or the Sunter Kelapa Gading pedestrian bridge. Previously, he had seen several steps that were brittle and missing.

"However, after a few days the stairs were good again, they were quickly repaired," he admitted, Wednesday (10/15).

Fajar said that the presence of CCTV means that people no longer need to worry or be afraid when using pedestrian bridges, especially at night.

"I feel safe, if there is any damage there will definitely be officers who will quickly make repairs," he said.

Similar thing was also conveyed by Dede Ansuriah (53). He admitted that the existence of the Yos Sudarso Concrete JPO or the North Jakarta Mayor's Transjakarta Bus Stop Bridge is very helpful to the community, especially for him as he was getting older.

He also assessed that pedestrian bridges in North Jakarta have become increasingly attractive and aesthetically pleasing, with some even equipped with elevators, such as those in the Sunter Agung area and others.

"The pedestrian bridges around Tanjung Priok are very well maintained and looked after, although some in other areas are damaged or worn out, but they are immediately repaired by officers," he admitted.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of North Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency, Hananto Krisnawardono explained damaged pedestrian bridges are caused by age, resulting in corrosion in several parts, such as iron railings, floor plates or stairs and bridge girders.

"The iron on the pedestrian bridges corrodes easily due to climate factors, especially the typology of the North Jakarta area which is close to the sea area," he explained.

Damage to pedestrian bridges is usually also caused by irresponsible public vandalism and theft of several bridge components.

"There are approximately 35 pedestrian bridges in North Jakarta, and several have been equipped with CCTV. In fact, whenever there's damage, we always coordinate with the Agency to ensure prompt repairs, as all pedestrian bridges fall under the auspices of the Bina Marga Agency," he added.

Hananto urged the public to participate and take shared responsibility for maintaining pedestrian bridges, starting with maintaining their cleanliness and safety.
