City Government Reaffirms Ban on Illegal Levies at Tebet Eco Park

The Jakarta government emphasizes that parks as public spaces must not be used as places for illegal levies.

Park must be a orderly, safe, and enjoyable place

This statement was made following reports of fees being charged for photography activities at Tebet Eco Park by individuals claiming to represent a photography community.

Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency (Distamhut) Head, Fajar Sauri said, the park is a public space prepared to be accessed, utilized, and enjoyed by all residents without exception.

"The park is a shared property. Every resident has the right to engage in activities and enjoy the park's atmosphere, including non-commercial photography, without having to pay any fees," he expressed, Tuesday (10/21).

According to him, illegal levy beyond official regulations will be dealt with firmly. The case occurred on October 16, 2025, at Tebet Eco Park has become a serious concern as it undermines the spirit of the park as an inclusive and pressure-free public space.

He believes that such actions harm visitors and tarnish the image of the park, which has long been a space for social interaction open to all.

"We will strengthen supervision and collaborate with local officers to prevent similar incidents from happening again," he explained.

Distamhut is committed to strengthening the development of communities and parties operating in park areas. Community data collection will be conducted to ensure that all activities in public spaces are monitored and comply with applicable regulations.

"We want to ensure that all communities active in the park have the same understanding. The park is a shared space that must be maintained together. We'll make regular communication with the communities to prevent misuse of the name or activities that do not comply with regulations," he explained.

As a public space, he explained, this park is provided for those who want to engage in activities, relax, and enjoy the urban environment with a sense of safety, comfort, and without any obligation to give compensation to anyone.

The steps for enforcing discipline in the field will continue to be strengthened through regular supervision, community development, and the implementation of sanctions for anyone proven to have committed violations.

"Our principle is clear: the park must be a orderly, safe, and enjoyable place for all Jakarta residents," he stated.
