Fasilitas Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant Rorotan di Jakarta Utara

Pramono Requests Temporary Halt of Rorotan RDF Plant Commissioning Process

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung instructed the Environmental Agency Head to temporarily halt the commissioning process of the Rorotan Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant, North Jakarta.

Prepare until there is a compact truck

The temporary stop will be in effect until a more compact truck is available to transport the trash.

"I have already asked the Head of Environmental Agency to temporarily halt the commissioning, and to prepare until there is a compact truck that can carry the trash to Rorotan," he expressed, at the Limpah River Room in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, Tuesday (11/4).

Rorotan RDF, a Solution to Jakarta's Waste Problem

Based on the in-depth investigation conducted over the past few days, the complaints raised by the community are not related to the commissioning process at the Rorotan RDF Plant, but rather to the waste transportation process, which has caused leachate spills (waste liquid). This situation has resulted in a foul odor that disturbs the surrounding residents.

"Approximately two or three days ago, when the rainfall was heavy, the trash became wetter and more mobile, causing the water flow to spill everywhere," he explained.

Previously, the waste used at the RDF Rorotan facility should not have been stored for more than two to five days to prevent odors. Additionally, the transportation process was problematic, causing leachate from the waste piles to flow during the journey to Rorotan RDF.

To follow up on residents' complaints, Pramono plans to meet with the surrounding residents of Rorotan RDF who have complained about the smell. He assured that the Jakarta government will resolve this issue so that the Rorotan RDF Plant can operate.

"Soon, I will also collect residents' complain about RDF. Because whatever issues with RDF must be resolved," he closed.
