Public Responds Positively to Motor Vehicle Tax Penalty Waiver

The Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency's (Bapenda) initiative to waive administrative penalties on Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB) has received positive feedback from Syafi Fabio Djohan, Member of Commission C of the Jakarta Council (DPRD).

He assessed that the policy benefits the public by reducing their tax burden through penalty waivers. Meanwhile, for Jakarta Government, there is potential for increased revenue as the fiscal year-end approaches.

"So, this is a win-win solution for all parties," he stated.

Syafi also praised the service system implemented by the Jakarta Provincial Government for being automatic and simple. According to him, this system will encourage citizens to promptly fulfill their tax obligations.

"What's also commendable is the automatic system that eliminates the need for citizens to apply for penalty waivers, making the service more responsive and efficient," he shared.

To optimize the impact of this policy, Syafi urged for broader and more focused socialization efforts.

"Socialization must reach down to RW and urban village levels, and can even involve automotive communities and online motorcycle taxi drivers. Many residents still don't know about this automatic waiver," he mentioned.

He also emphasized the importance of fostering a tax compliance culture based on mutual respect between the government and the community.

"In the future, the government might consider offering incentives to residents who consistently pay their taxes on time, such as discounts or annual awards. This way, tax compliance grows not because of penalty waivers, but because citizens feel appreciated by the government," he explained.

For your information, this administrative penalty waiver program applies to principal tax payments made from November 10 to December 31, 2025.

This policy is regulated under the Decree of Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency Head No. e-0104 of 2025 concerning the Official Waiver of Administrative Sanctions for Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB).
