Jakarta Health Agency (Dinkes) urges residents to be more vigilant against Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) during the transitional season.
Prevention is much better than cure
Jakarta Dinkes Head, Ani Ruspitawati said, unpredictable temperature changes, from scorching heat to heavy rain, make viruses and bacteria easier to develop and enter the human respiratory system.
She added, dry air conditions and extreme temperature fluctuations can trigger a decrease in the body's immunity, making it more susceptible to illnesses such as coughs, colds, fevers, and fatigue.
Residents Urged to Remain Calm About Microplastics"The transitional season causes viruses such as influenza, adenovirus, and bacteria that cause pneumonia to spread more easily," she expressed, Friday (11/14).
Besides weather factors, the risk of respiratory infections also increases due to air pollution, poor ventilation, exposure to cigarette smoke, and low immune system strength.
Therefore, she emphasized the importance of maintaining personal and environmental cleanliness as a simple yet effective preventive measure.
Some recommended steps include wearing a mask, washing hands with soap and running water, avoiding cigarette smoke, maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet, ensuring adequate fluid intake of at least eight glasses of water per day, and getting enough rest.
"Prevention is much better than cure. Start maintaining your body's immunity now," she exclaimed.
They also encourage the public to be more aware of the early symptoms of respiratory infections and to seek medical attention immediately if experiencing cough, cold, or prolonged fever.
"We continue to remind residents to stay vigilant and practice clean and healthy living behaviors, especially during the transitional season like now," she stated.
