Jakarta Enhances Tidal and Urban Flood Mitigation

The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to strengthen mitigation efforts against potential tidal flooding in coastal areas, especially in Mutiara Beach, as well as urban flooding across the city.

"We've been monitoring conditions continuously with BMKG,"

Responding to public concerns about breaches in coastal embankments, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung explained that the city government is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"We've been monitoring conditions continuously with BMKG. Tidal flooding rose yesterday but has since receded. Hopefully, rainfall will remain low over the next two to three days," Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (11/21).

Thousands of Personnel and Pumps Ready to Anticipate Tidal Flooding

However, Pramono added that according to BMKG's report, rainfall is expected to increase again within the next three days. To face the potential flooding, Pramono assured that Jakarta has taken integrated preparedness measures.

In addition, the Jakarta Provincial Government will soon carry out normalization of the Ciliwung and Krukut Rivers to address flooding issues.

“Jakarta, in coordination with the Military Regional Commander and the Police Chief, has prepared for flood control, including checking pumps, floodgates, and everything else,” he emphasized.
