Intercept Car Free Day, Driver Can Be Punished

The incident about military official vehicles intercepting Car Free Day (CFD) area on Sunday (5/7) can be considered as unlawful activities. The action violated Act No. 22/2009 on Road Traffic and Road Transport (LLAJ) because the action could endanger pedestrians and cyclists in the CFD.

"They had violated the Act No 22 on traffic signs," told Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishubtrans) Secretary, Anton Parura, Thursday (7/9).
He explained, the driver could be punished because their vehicle has violated the prohibition passed signs that have been installed in the Car Free Day area.

Parura said, the LLAJ Act applies without exception including the state officials. Moreover, Car Free Day activity has lasted long enough and known by the public.
"We can impose sanctions for offenders as law applies to anyone," he explained.
As information, in the Act No. 22/2009 on Road Traffic and Road Transport (LLAJ) Article 284, any person who driving a motor vehicle with no priority to pedestrians or cyclists safety as referred in Article 106 paragraph (2) shall be punished with imprisonment of 2 (two) months or a maximum fine of Rp 500,000.
