"We revive old employee uniforms and used community clothing into various products," he expressed, Thursday (12/4).
According to him, PT MRT Jakarta places sustainability at the core of its strategy in conducting the mandate it has been given. They explained that the concept and strategy of sustainability are outlined in the Company's Long-Term Plan (RJPP) 2022-2030, which includes commitments, initiatives, programs, and agendas.
"The sustainability initiatives undertaken include environmental, social, and governance aspects following the MRT Jakarta sustainability road map," he explained.
Through the Menjahit Perjalanan program, carbon emissions can be reduced by more than 10 tons of CO2e per year, preventing over 1,000 company uniforms from ending up in landfills or being burned each year, and improving the community's quality of life through community empowerment around Blok A station and people with disabilities.
"MRT Jakarta invites Jakartans to support zero waste and circular fashion programs based on uniforms and second-hand clothing," he explained.
In this program, used uniforms and clothing will be sorted and managed into three categories: upcycling to transform used clothing into creative works by a disability community; thrift sale to allocate the proceeds for social activities, education, and disability empowerment; and distribution to provide the works to the community and organizations in need.
"Used clothing that is still wearable will be transformed into useful products and items for daily needs such as other craftworks," he continued.
As information, the recycled product will be launched as official MRT Jakarta merchandise and can be resold by the Teman Hebat Berkarya Foundation as part of local economic empowerment.
Aside that, Bundaran HI Station's Bank Jakarta, there was also a discussion on social inclusion and empowerment through creativity, art performances by friends with disabilities, a craft-making workshop, a fashion show, and an exhibition of handmade crafts.

The Menjahit Perjalanan Program is one of MRT Jakarta's efforts to implement the MRT Sejahtera pillar, which focuses on encouraging the community and strengthening independence in fulfilling sustainable economic functions in the long term.
