Jakarta Student-Athletes Showered with Cash Rewards for Historic Wins

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung presented awards to student-athletes who have brought honor to the city on both national and international stages. The ceremony took place at the Student Sports Training Center (PPOP) in Ragunan, South Jakarta, Monday (12/22).

Pramono expressed his pride in the Jakarta contingent's achievements, particularly at the National Student Sports Week (POPNAS XVII) 2025. Jakarta emerged as the overall champion with a record-breaking medal tally.

“As Governor, I am truly proud that Jakarta secured first place in POPNAS. We earned 101 gold medals—the highest ever achieved by Jakarta,” he expressed.

Jakarta Badminton Team Maintains Its Dominance at POPNAS

Even, Jakarta also secured third place in the National Student Paralympic Week (PEPARPENAS) and earned a bronze medal at the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025. He extended his congratulations to the athletes for their stellar performance.

“Jakarta government presents these awards to you in recognition of your extraordinary hard work, motivation, and dedication during your training process,” he explained.

Pramono noted that these achievements serve as a strong foundation for the future of sports in Jakarta, setting a target for the city to reclaim the overall championship at the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).

He also lauded the contribution of Jakarta athletes to the national team at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand, where they contributed 27 out of Indonesia’s 91 gold medals.

He expressed his appreciation to all supporting parties and hoped that the existing synergy would continue to improve the quality of sporting events in Jakarta.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Head, Andriansyah, detailed the contingent's achievements. In POPNAS XVII, held from November 1 to 10, 2025, the city clinched the overall title with 101 gold, 56 silver, and 64 bronze medals—marking the highest achievement in the history of the competition in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, at the PEPARPENAS, Jakarta rose to third place with 11 gold, 15 silver, and 14 bronze medals. 

“This is also a record-breaking feat. Previously, it was difficult for us to break into the top five, but Alhamdulillah (thank God), this year we reached the top three,” he remarked.

Further, at the Special Olympics World Winter Games held from March 8 to 16, 2025, in Turin, Italy, the contingent secured one bronze medal.

To honor these feats, the Jakarta government distributed cash rewards totaling Rp 9.2 billion for the POPNAS contingent, Rp 1.1 billion for PEPARPENAS, and Rp 400 million for the Special Olympics athletes.
