Governor Pramono Anung has set an aggressive 90% target for clean water coverage in Jakarta by year-end. The directive aims to build on the momentum of 2025, which saw PAM JAYA expand its service reach to 80.5% of the capital.
I am confident that by 2029, we can achieve 100% coverage
"If we can hit the 90% mark in 2026, I am confident that by 2029, we can achieve 100% coverage—and with high water quality,” he said, at the former PAM JAYA Metering Building in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (12/8).
Jakarta’s Governor is calling for the city’s water agency, PAM JAYA, to go public by 2027 in a move designed to increase transparency and modernize management.
PAM JAYA Asked to Anticipate Congestion in Pipeline Excavation ProjectsFollowing the agency's transition into a regional corporate entity (Perseroda), he praised its progress toward universal water access. He emphasized that an IPO would be the final step in the company's transformation.
"If we prepare effectively throughout 2026, we should be ready for a 30% public listing by 2027. This move will ensure that PAM JAYA remains a premier, financially stable company," Pramono stated.
He noted that residents—particularly those in areas once plagued by water shortages—are already seeing the benefits of recent service upgrades. He expressed confidence that PAM JAYA is poised to further elevate its operational standards in serving the public.
Highlighting this commitment to growth, the Governor presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 11-story administrative hub in Central Jakarta. Once completed, the PAM JAYA Service Center will stand as a multi-story landmark for the city's water utility operations.
Spanning nearly 19,000 square meters, the project is backed by a Rp 259 billion city investment. Pramono hopes the facility will serve as Indonesia’s primary hub for integrated water management and public education.
"My aim is for this education center to operate effectively and provide a massive contribution to the sector. I expect PAM JAYA to maintain its momentum as a leader in utility innovation," he added.
PT PAM JAYA President Director, Arief Nasrudin stated, PAM JAYA, is set to begin a massive installation of new water mains to close the gap in the city's service coverage. The project focuses on East and South Jakarta, including areas bordering Depok.
This infrastructure push is being supported by the construction of a new service headquarters, designed to integrate a coordination center for piped water, customer relations facilities, and an educational hub.
The planned water education hub aims to draw the public in with immersive experiences and lessons on the critical urgency of water conservation.
"This building will house Indonesia's inaugural water education center. Our aim is to ensure that water awareness becomes a core part of the conversation for the next generation, reaching students from primary school through junior high," he stated.
