N. Jakarta Mayor Assures Fulfillment of Flood Victims' Basic Needs

North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat, along with local officials and Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), visited a flood evacuation site at the Semper Timur Urban Village office in Cilincing Sub-district.

Hendra stated that 129 residents from three neighborhood units (RWs) were currently sheltering at the site, with numbers decreasing compared to the previous day.

"We visited Semper Timur to check on evacuees and make sure they're receiving proper services and their needs are being met," he emphasized on Tuesday (1/13).

He explained that the North Jakarta City Government has prepared basic necessities for evacuees. Coordination has also been made with related agencies such as the Social Sub-agency, Baznas Bazis, military, police, and other relevant parties.

"We've provided resting areas, meals, drinks, and hygiene facilities such as bathing and laundry. We're working together to make sure the evacuees' needs are well taken care of," he mentioned.

He added that evacuation sites were not only located in Semper Timur but also spread across several other areas, such as the Embrio Public Housing in Semper Barat and Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village.

Semper Timur Urban Village Head, Tien Septimar, reported that there are currently 129 evacuees in her area, consisting of 16 toddlers, 12 elderly individuals, 77 adults, and 24 children and teenagers from RW 01, RW 02, and RW 04, with the majority from RW 02.

"Yesterday, there were around 137 evacuees, but some have returned home. Some residents also chose to take shelter at mosques or stay with relatives," she shared.

According to her, the urban village office is providing healthcare services through the Health Sub-agency, along with ready-to-eat meals for evacuees.

"Common complaints among evacuees include cough, colds, itching, and body aches. All have been addressed by the health workers," she mentioned.

Meanwhile, Ripah (80), a resident of RT 08/02, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to North Jakarta Mayor and his team for the assistance and services provided.

"Water got into the house up to around 50 centimeters, knee-high. Right now, I’m evacuating with my grandchildren and family. I hope the floodwaters subside soon so we can return safely," she said.
