Rano Pushes for Rock-Solid Industrial Planning

Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno, delivering Governor Pramono Anung’s address, has unveiled a 20-year blueprint to transform Jakarta into a global economic powerhouse.

We're moving toward high-value industries

The proposed Industrial Development Plan 2026-2046 is designed to pave the way for Jakarta’s transition into a world-class city, as mandated by Law No. 2/2024. The strategy focuses on sharpening the edge of Jakarta’s manufacturing sector.

"We're moving toward high-value industries that go hand-in-hand with innovation and technological mastery," he stated, during the Legislative Plenary Session, Thursday (1/15)."

Rano emphasized that the roadmap is designed to break the cycle of import dependency while supercharging export growth. The plan also prioritizes tapping into top-tier talent and beefing up the city's halal industry ecosystem.

"This is why we need a rock-solid and comprehensive strategy," he asserted.

He further pointed out that Law No. 3/2014 serves as a legal mandate for regional leaders to finalize and implement the industrial development bylaw.

He continued the bylaw will serve as the legal bedrock to cement Jakarta’s status as a hub for modern industrial services and innovation, effectively breaking the mold of a traditional manufacturing base.

Spatially, the plan maps out a selective, eco-friendly blueprint to ensure industrial growth across Jakarta remains in harmony with the environment.

The new roadmap is set to clean up Jakarta’s industrial act by cracking down on heavy polluters and pushing for a vertical shift in industrial zones. Focusing on strategic hubs like Pulo Gadung, Marunda, Cakung, and Cilincing, the city will prioritize eco-friendly tech and space efficiency to make the most of its limited land.

This strategic overhaul anchors Jakarta’s 2026-2046 vision: "An Advanced Global City Driven by Competitive and Sustainable Industry"—a goal aimed at ensuring the capital holds its own on the global stage while staying built to last.

To bring this vision to life, the roadmap is built on a four-pronged mission. First, Jakarta aims to stay ahead of the pack by harnessing the full potential of its top-tier talent.

Second, the city seeks to break new ground with an innovation-led economy that is both inclusive and world-class.

The third mission champions fair play, ensuring industrial growth is equitable for all. Finally, Jakarta aims to bridge the gap between national and global interests, creating a synergistic industrial ecosystem that is truly built to last.

To turn this vision into reality, the administration has set the bar with a series of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

These metrics are designed to measure the pulse of the non-oil and gas manufacturing sector, tracking everything from its contribution to the regional GDP and export performance to job creation and investment influx.

Rano urged the legislative to clear the way for the draft's approval, emphasizing its role as the city’s essential navigation chart for the next two decades.

"We hope this clarity will smooth the way for commission discussions, allowing the council to give the green light to the 2026 Industrial Bylaw," he concluded.
