Floodwaters Recede Across Jakarta’s Major Arteries

The Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) confirmed that floodwaters on several major roads have begun to subside as of Monday (1/19). After heavy downpours hammered the city from Saturday (1/17) through Sunday morning, traffic is returning to normal in previously inundated areas.

These include Jalan Letjen Suprapto, Jalan Sunter Agung Raya, and Jalan Gaya Motor Raya, following a steady decrease in water levels since yesterday morning.

Several additional roads in the capital are now back in operation after floodwaters ebbed. Among the cleared routes are Jalan Pangeran Tubagus Angke, the West Outer Ring Road, and Jalan Jembatan Tiga area. Officials also confirmed that Jalan Pluit Raya, Jalan Pluit Selatan Raya, and Jalan Cakung Cilincing Raya are now dry, alongside Jalan Prof. Dr. Latumeten in West Jakarta.

Jakarta BPBD Acting Head, Isnawa Adji explained that beyond major roads, 15 neighborhood units (RT) in West, North, and East Jakarta have been fully drained.

These residential areas were previously submerged under more than 50 centimeters of water at their peak.

BPBD continues to coordinate with the Water Resources (SDA), Public Works (Bina Marga), and Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) agencies to monitor the situation.

"We are currently deploying pumps and clearing storm drains to ensure all remaining flooding recedes swiftly while providing basic aid to affected residents," he stated.
