70,000 Newcomers Predicted to Crowd Jakarta

Jakarta Governor, Basuki “Ahok” T Purnama predicts the number of newcomers in Jakarta will hit ten of thousand people after Eid ul-Fitr.

“Our prediction, about 60-70 thousand newcomers will come to Jakarta,” he said after he released thousand homecomers in the program of free homecoming held by a cellular provider at Parkir Timur Senayan, Tuesday (7/14).

Nevertheless, according to him, its number tends to decrease compared to previous years. It is because there is the spread of development in several other provinces in Indonesia.

“Its number is decreasing, after there is regional autonomy and industry flourished in Central and East Java, where people rarely come to Jakarta," he told.

Ahok went on the say that it is caused by lack of inadequate mass transportation. “If we had the fast train towards Bandung, people might be stay in Cikarang. LRT for instance, I am willing to stay near Ragunan,” he uttered.

He also that citizens outside Jakarta allowed to come to Jakarta, as long as they have ability to work and have decent home. “You may come even bring your relatives, as long as you got the job, moreover if you have a lot of money, you could buy an apartment or house, of course you can” he expressed.

Separately, the free homecoming program was also attended by Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara and Chief of National Police Traffic Police Corps Insp. Gen. Condro Kirono. As much as 2,500 homecomers were departed through 50 buses with 8 destinations (Yogya, Solo, Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang, Malang and Surabaya).
