Rano Encourages Routine Blood Donations Among Jakarta ASN and PJLP

To anticipate daily needs and maintain blood supplies, Vice Governor Rano Karno has called on civil servants (ASN) and PJLP workers within the Jakarta Provincial Government to become regular blood donors.

"Jakarta has great potential. We have around 60,000 civil servants and 81,000 PJLP workers,"

"Jakarta has great potential. We have around 60,000 civil servants and 81,000 PJLP workers. If they donate blood even once every three months, it would create a strong blood pool that needs to be well planned," Rano said while opening the Jakarta Red Cross (PMI) Work Meeting on Wednesday (1/28) at the Multipurpose Hall of the Jakarta Muhammadiyah Regional Board (PWM) Building on Jalan Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta.

Rano Presents Appreciation to 75-Time Blood Donors

Rano said blood donation is a humanitarian act that helps people in need while also benefiting donors' health.

He noted that although Jakarta's daily blood requirement of around 1,200 units is relatively being met, supply availability at PMI Jakarta must continue to be maintained.

"So far, whenever blood is needed, more than 214 private hospitals and 40 public hospitals source it from PMI," Rano said.

Rano added that as Jakarta moves toward becoming part of a larger metropolitan agglomeration, it may also need to serve residents from surrounding areas such as Depok, Tangerang, Bogor, and Bekasi.

"Blood components are critically important for Jakarta and the surrounding buffer regions. That means we must start calculating our capacity now," he stressed.

On the other hand, Jakarta PMI Chairman Becky Mardani said additional blood supplies are especially needed during Ramadan.

Based on past experience, he shared, blood stocks always decline during Ramadan due to fewer donors.

"As for ASN and PJLP, we will push for their participation during Ramadan so that blood supplies can be maintained," he stated.
