Flood Anticipation, Damaged Pump Houses Keep Being Repaired

Various ways to anticipate flooding keep being intensified by Jakarta Water Management Department. One of them is by conducting normalization and repairing water pump machines in 5 municipalities.

Head of Jakarta Water Management, Tri Djoko Sri Margianto acknowledged the condition of water channels, rivers and reservoirs that spread in Jakarta is very worrying. It can be seen from high level of mud sediment and waste that settled in the channel, river, and reservoir.

“I saw this real condition, this must be fixed soon. This should be done before rainy season,” he said, Thursday (7/28).

Former Regent of Seribu Islands conveyed last week, he had involved Heads of Water Management Sub-Department to monitor rivers, reservoirs and sluice gates condition in each areas.

“In Gedung Jaya, its sluice gate is experiencing lockups. While in Mapalus, the pump does not work as the water channel covered by mud which being dumped by Lippo contractor,” he enlightened.

Besides that, Margianto went on the say that he saw damaged pump houses at the Sogo and Melati Reservoirs' sluice gates, Central Jakarta. From three pump houses, only one machine on the West side working and two other machines on the Central and East are damage.

“I've asked the West pump house to be activated continuously, thus we could monitor its performance to drain the reservoir,” he told.

According to the evaluation report last week, there is a wrong procedure in the maintenance of rivers, channels, reservoirs, etc. That is why, the heads of Water Management Sub-Department are asked to keep continue normalization intensively.

“The pattern is simple, just like cleaning the house. Indeed, we have problem before, but if we do it routinely, all will be lighter,” he exclaimed.
