185 Illegal Buildings in Menteng Pulo Dismantled

Efforts for re-functioning water channel to handle flood keep being conducted by South Jakarta Administration. Including demolish illegal buildings standing on the water channel located at Jalan Menteng Pulo RT 05/14 Menteng, Tuesday (7/28).

The buildings were used as grocery, vegetables, used woods stalls

"This is our way to re-function the channel which has been covered along Jalan Menteng Pulo Tebet and Jalan Pandawa Setiabudi," said South Jakarta Mayor, Syamduddin Noor, Tuesday (7/28).

He said, the 500-meter water channel have not been functioning for a very long time due to covered by illegal buildings thus it makes the water hard to flow. "Trash and sediment have covered the 500-meter channel. So the water cannot flow," he told.

Massive Demolishment will Be Held in South Jakarta

Based on beritajakarta.com observation, 2 heavy equipments were deployed to dismantle those illegal buildings. "There are 165 illegal buildings which include in Tebet area, 20 in Setiabudi. The buildings were used as grocery, vegetables, used woods stalls," he uttered.

In future, he continued, the channel will be dredged by South Jakarta Water Management Sub-Department. "After the debris cleaned, then the channel will be dredged by South Jakarta Water Management Sub-Department," he disclosed.

Chief of Jakarta Satpol PP Kukuh Hadi Santoso stated his party deployed 150 personnel in the demolishment. "We're deploying 150 personnel. We will demolish all of illegal buildings which stand on water channel," he asserted.
