City Handles Dryness Matter Seriously

Dryness problem in the city seizes a serious attention of the City Administration likewise happens in Cengkareng, West Jakarta. Even, the urban village and sub-district heads are also asked to participate in handling the matter.

"It is still being discussed at leader level to bring order of governor's form letter regarding the effort that will be conducted in the urban village and sub-district," said Head of Informatics and Controlling Division for the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Bambang Surya Putra, Thursday (7/30). 

He explained the dryness disaster in Cengkareng is caused by many citizens who use ground water. Consequently, the decrease of ground water happens that makes intrusion of seawater thus causing water in the area tastes salty.

"The PAM water there is already covered, but its number is just not adequate. The water debit also probably lack," he told.

He also disclosed, from sluice gate observations, rivers in Jakarta are precisely receded. For example, the water debit on Ciliwung River that is only 10 cm if it is seen from Katulampa Dam, Bogor. 

"It is usually 60 cm. There are also many rivers which the waste in Jakarta, and it can't be drunk," he uttered.
