Ahok will Cover Medical Expenses of Azmi

Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama will cover the medical expenses of a 13-year-old boy named Azmi Abdul Malik who has only one eye, as his the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS) card cannot be used.

"I've already instructed my staff, if the administration of BPJS is so hard, instead of waiting for rules, i will pay for the expenses in RSCM. His eye needs a surgery," said Ahok at Jakarta Islamic Centre (JIC), Koja, North Jakarta, Wednesday (8/12).

Ahok did not blame BPJS on this matter, as scheme of health insurance through BPJS uses casemix system. Where the expenses covered is an unit per disease diagnose or group, not per medical or non medical service given.

He exemplified, typhus suffer patient who need treatment for 5 days, then the expense covered by BPJS is just in those days. If more, the patient should cover it by themselves.

As for Azmi case, is a rare disease. Thus it cannot be joined with other disease. "Well, for rare disease, once the case is out, there would be no fare on BPJS. As the fares should be collected from cases," he explained.

Azmi, lost his left eye due to hit by wood arrow when he was playing with his friend about 8 years ago. The incident made his eye got worse infection thus the doctor had to take his eye and replaced with the fake one that should be changed once in 6 months.
